Blind Firefighters
A priest, a doctor, and a lawyer were stuck behind a particularly slow group
of golfers. After three holes, they complained to the greens keeper.
"Sorry guys. That’s group of blind firefighters,” the man explained. They lost
their sight saving our clubhouse from burning down last year, so we let them play
here any time for free."
"That so sad,” the priest said, "I’ll say a prayer for them tonight".
"Good idea" the doctor agreed. "I’m going to contact my ophthalmologist friend
and see if there’s anything he can do for them."
The lawyer said, “So why can’t they play at night?
Course News
As you can see, we have started to upgrade the putting green
to make it "almost" level. This will give a far greater area
to putt on and take out the unnatural slopes on the green. We
will be using the grass on the current green to re-sod the
new green as well as planting new grass where the green has
been enlarged. This will take most of the current green out
of play for about 2 months. The top side of the green and the
chipping green will be used for putting in the meantime. Your
patience is appreciated.
The watering of the fairways will be cut back in the next 2
weeks in preparation for a light scarifying of the fairways.
This will also enable us to start with the final levelling of
the trenches”and planting of grass on the larger damaged areas
on the course. So if you are getting more roll on the ball,
you know why.
Juniors playing on a Saturday.
The vacancies in the Saturday afternoon fields have given us
the opportunity to give the junior golfers in the club a
chance to play Saturday golf. So if you have got a junior
member wanting to play on a Saturday, please speak to
Bryan Prytz.
Vandalism on the course.
We have had a spate of petty vandalism happening on the course over
the last few weeks. A flag pole, a ball washer and a distance marker
have all been stolen. Greens have also been purposely damaged. This
seems to happen every few years and is really unnecessary. We clearly
don’t need these nuisances. If anyone can throw a light on these
happenings please let us know. We will take appropriate action
against anyone caught.
Irrigation Update.
Is it not ironic! The fairways have not looked better in 10 years.
Thanks mainly to the very big irrigation system in the sky. It seems
a cruel deed to dig up the fairways to lay pipes but it will be
better in the end. Thanks for your patience. The march of the pipe
layers goes forward! Hoorah! Etc. Etc. Etc.

RULES OF THE GAME
One of the fourball I played with last week was teeing his ball up as
high as he could using the longest tee I have ever seen. This looked quite
odd but worked for him. I wondered if there was a size limit on tees in
the rules. I looked it up and there is. Do you know what it is?
The definition section has the answer to this one. It says:
A "tee" is a device designed to raise the ball off the ground. It must
not be longer than 4 inches (101.6 mm), and it must not be designed or
manufactured in such a way that it could indicate the line of play or
influence the movement of the ball.
I am not sure what is meant by influencing the movement of the ball. I
wonder if there is a tee that can cure my slice?
Here is a technical one. A golf cart is regarded as "equipment" in the
rules. If two players share a cart, whose equipment does it become?
Tell you next week. Cheers KF
