Winter League starts on the 17th April. All changes to the league format will be finalised at the Eastern’s meeting to be held at B.L.C on 04/04/07. The Captains and committee have finlised the players for the teams and lists will be posted on the notice boards shortly.

Please collect your key from reception (R150.00) to allow you entrance into the squash complex.
Our Annual golf day will take place on Sunday 6th May ’07. Contact Pro shop to book your 4-ball. Please start collecting prizes, however big or small – any contribution will be appreciated. Anyone willing to sponsor please call Eric Vance on 082 390 2874.

SANLAM CANCER CHALLENGE

Our annual fundraising golf day is coming up on Saturday the 9th of June. We appeal to our members from all sub-sections to step up to the plate and make a difference – get your name onto that time-sheet!. This the only Charity day run by our Club where the proceeds are donated to a worthy cause

Data received from the CANSA association based on statistics from 1999, showed 40% of all cancers reported to the cancer registry are in Gauteng! The leading cancer in women is breast cancer with cervical cancer as the second most common and Basal cell carcinoma the third. The US is the leader of breast cancer with South African white females ranking the fourth highest in the world.

Cancer is the highest cause of death in children in first world countries – accident and infection being the leading killer in children of 3rd world countries. According to CHOC; 1 in 7000 children under the age of 14 will have some form of cancer - the most common cancer in Children is leukemia - up to a quarter of the cases reported. The curative rate of leukemia in children is up to 70% provided it is diagnosed and treated timeously. However, there is a much higher number of children who survive cancer than adults – "treatment for children is to cure."

The leading cancer in 1999 for white males was basal cell carcinoma at 23% of all cancers reported, 13.6 % of cancer in men is Prostate cancer. SA prostate cancer statistics are the 5th highest worldwide.

New locks have been fitted to the entrance doors at squash – anyone needing a key please report to reception during office hours - R150.00 per key one per person.
